How else would a narcissist act when they come into money? They want to spend it on themselves. They may get a fancy car, buy designer clothes, get facials—spend it on their looks. They love spending on their looks or expensive assets.
A narcissist with money will usually have a nice car because they use it to attract attention. They’re trying to show off. One of the biggest purchases they’ll make is getting a new, fancy car because they want everyone to think they have money.
Even a broke narcissist will put their money into an expensive car—while they can’t even pay their rent—because they’re trying to portray an image that they have money.
Another example: people get involved with a narcissist while they’re still in school or building their future. The narcissist uses that person. That person is working while the narcissist is focusing on school and advancement. Then once the narcissist has career success and can make more money, they dump the person who supported them.
They may replace that partner with someone else—often someone younger or someone who provides better access, attention, or supply. They discard the person they used while building their career. This happens a lot.
You’re there for years, helping them and supporting them. Then once they make it, they discard you because they think they don’t need you anymore. They think they’re better than you. They don’t appreciate what you did when they were struggling.
